Mascots on the run!

On the 21st of March 2009 Captain Black Arab; Bristol Rovers new mascot, participated in a race at Wincanton Race Course to raise money for a charity called The Children’s Trust.

In the race at Wincanton, Captain Black Arab came 5th place out of 7 other participants. He said that it was really fun and he would love to do another race soon to raise more money for charity. Even though the winner was Barney the Bear, The Captain still got a prize for being the oldest mascot running!

The Children’s Trust is a charity that educates, looks after and treats children with disabilities and complex health needs. Understandably the Bristol  Rovers mascot was attracted to this great charity.

Captain Black Arab got his new look and name  in September 2008, before this he was known as Captain Gas. Today, we had the chance to interview the Captain and found out that his new name came from a fan in a competition in The Evening Post, and his new look is based upon the famous pirate; Captain Jack Sparrow from the film ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’.

This was a joyful day for Captain Black Arab and we hope he comes first in his next race.
